Offered today is a very early UNITED STATES TIRES SALES & SERVICE DEPOT painted tin sign. This sign is in very nice condition considering it's nearing 100 years old. Photo #8 shows an ad from the November 13th, 1919 issue of the Saturday Evening Post that displays an image of this same sign. So it must have been around during the wooden spoke era. Hard to find in ANY condition!

The paint on this sign is very solid. If you look at photo #4 you can see what looks like drips or stains throughout the surface. I tried to remove these with soap and warm water and they didn't come off. I didn't want to try anything stronger as I didn't want to risk messing up the paint.

Easy to see up close-hard to see from 10 feet away. In my opinion it's just part of the perfect age and patina that speaks of the long tour of duty this sign has served. It also has a hand painted marking on the back that still partially shows what appears to be COWAN WINDOM, MINN. Sign measures 40-5/8" tall X 29-3/8" wide. Signs of this era are getting harder and harder to find.
