RARE VTG 1920s Original Wolf's Head Oil Tin Sign Wolverine Lubricants New York

  

For sale is this rare early Wolf's Head Oil tin sign from Wolverine Lubricants Co. We believe this sign dates back to the 1920s era. Just look at that neat image of the snarling wolf!

Apparently, this sign was discontinued shortly after production because it was too scary for children. This piece was found nailed to a barn roof, and it looks like the bottom 3/4 of the sign was more exposed to weather. The top 1/4 of the sign looks to still have the green coloration of the tin on the back. This sign measures approximately 19.5" by 19.5" square. Please examine the pictures for a further evaluation of the condition.

We want to make sure several flaws are noted. Most noteworthy is the rust across the snout of the wolf graphic. We see some rust throughout this piece, including some along the edges. Next, we want to point out that this piece had a lot of nails throughout, and it has a significant number of nail sized holes (at least 20 of them). It also appears to have a couple of very small holes in the middle that appear to be loss from rust. The metal is mostly straight, with only some minimal crinkles, especially when compared to other examples of this sign we have seen. Although, we have only seen two other examples in many years of collecting signs. Overall, this sign is in fair to good condition and is certainly a highly collectible piece of early gas and oil memorabilia.
