For sale is this rare original vintage Hitchman Coal Hi Heat embossed metal advertising sign from Hitchman Coal & Coke Co. The Hitchman mine in Benwood exploded in 1942 and is ranked as the one of the worst coal mining disasters in the state of West Virginia. The sign measures approximately 27.75" by 9.75". It appears that the sign has been exposed to very high heat, probably being in the vicinity but not actually in a fire. There is significant bubbling on the surface but the colors remain very strong, as does the embossing. The bottom right corner is marked with a sign manufacturers name that is illegible, although the works "Kenton, Ohio" can be read. This sign is the real deal and rare.
