Rare, large, 19th Century sign for a famous opium-tainted quack medicine by Perry Davis. The lower right is marked Lith (ograph) Lindner, Eddy & Clauss NY. This sign was made by mounting a thick paper lithograph to a tin sheet and then it was varnished. There is no indication that anything has been done to the sign in the last 100 years, so there is nothing I would call restoration, but there is some wear and damage from age and storage. Overall the varnish has yellowed and the color has faded and there is a section where old white paint was dripped on the sign ans some has chipped off.
The edges are worn and there are some dark stains on the lithograph's surface. Bends and dents in the tin have caused some damage to the paper on the surface.
There's no question that the paper has been on the tin for a long, log time, especially when you look at the wear on the edges. Guaranteed old, circa late 1800s and not a reproduction.
